The tenth album of original material from Patty Loveless, Strong Heart was quite a departure from her earlier style. An apparent attempt at corralling the pop audience did not go as well as planned, with neither the country nor the pop audiences embracing it much. The album led off with the very hip but not country at all "You're So Cool," which was like nothing that Loveless had ever done before. The biggest hit single, the very pop-sounding "That's the Kind of Mood I'm In," only made it to #71 on the Billboard Top Pop Singles chart and #13 on the Top Country Singles chart. The only other song to chart was the #20 Country single "The Last Thing on My Mind." Patty Loveless was just too country for the pop audience, and this album was just too pop for her loyal fan base. It was her lowest-selling album since she switched to Epic Records seven years earlier.
