Striker (The King of Fighters)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Striker is a type of character featured in the fighting game series The King of Fighters (KOF). In the KOF series, the teams would feature three members, in The King of Fighters '99, 2000 and 2001 a fourth member was added to each of the teams. The fourth member, the Striker, pops into the battle and does an attack on the opposing team. The Striker can attack at least three times before not being selectable until the next battle. This is an extension of a similar system which dates back to the series' inception, The King of Fighters '94, in which it was possible to summon characters on the sidelines to help when on the receiving end of a combo or extended hold maneuver. The system was abandoned in The King of Fighters '97.

[edit] Type of strikers
There are three types of Strikers in King of Fighters. The Active Strikers are the selectable characters in the game that can either act as a playable character or a Striker. Another Strikers are Striker only characters used in KOF 2000 that can be selected, in the Striker select menu, to be the Striker instead of an Active Striker. Each character had an Another Striker. Also in KOF 2000 were Strikers called Maniac Strikers. Maniac Strikers act like Another Strikers but can only be used by imputing the code, up, left, left, left, right, right, right, down, into the Striker select menu. Only Chang, Choi, Iori, Kula, Kyo, Ramon, Ryo and Kasumi can use Maniac Strikers. Additional Maniac Strikers are unlockable through the Party Mode of the console versions of KOF 2000.
In KOF 99 Evolution starts with this system with the bonification in battles, made in KOF '99, where you can "buy" strikers if you get a certain amount of points in the fights. You can exchange as much potentiated normal striker characters as exclusive striker characters, from another KOF games (Billy Kane or Goro Daimon) or from various SNK games (Fio from MS or Alfred from RBFF2:DM) and even alternative costumes (Athena in school outfit or Kyo with leather jacket and jeans).
