[edit] History
The school was opened on the 15th of February 1881 by George Metcalfe as Druitt Town School. Druitt Town was not an affluent village. School fees were 3d per week and it was the principal’s responsibility to try to maintain the fee. As there were a lot of people unemployed the headmaster could permit poorer families to make a cheaper payment, when approved by the council.
The most significant event that took place was the change of name from Druitt Town Public School to Strathfield South Public School on the 27th December, 1892.
There had been a request in November of that year that the name be changed to Strathfield. This was not allowed as Strathfield is a railway suburb and if the school was to be named Strathfield, the school must be closer to the railway line.
Finally it was decided that Strathfield South was to be the new name.
In 2006, the school celebrated its 125th Birthday.
