Strata 3D

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Strata 3D is a commercial 3D modeling and animation program developed in St. George, Utah by Corastar. It is the current incarnation of a program that was previously called Strata Studio Pro and StrataVision 3D.

Strata 3D is well-known for its ease of use and the quality of its renderings[citation needed]. It is targeted at the illustration/multimedia market rather that at the movie/games market, and lately it has been positioned as a companion program for Adobe applications.

[edit] Versions

The current version of Strata 3D is Strata 3D CX, more specifically Strata 3D 5.0. The 5.0 release includes catmull-clark based polygon smoothing, scripting via the Lua programming language, rendering to Photoshop layers.

The Strata 3D CX 4.0 release included Polygon modeling tools (SDS).

Releases 3 added functionality such as toon rendering and photon mapping.

Releases 2.x were problematic concerning stability and features. The program was then called Strata Studio Pro.

Releases 1.x were successful and very advanced at the time.[citation needed]
