Stražnice is main town of region Straznicko.

THE REGION OF STRAZNICE – THE REGION OF WINE, FOLKLORE AND ORCHIDS Welcome to the region of good wine, good food, live folklore and beautiful countryside. The region of Straznice is located at the border of the Czech and Slovak Republics. The region of Strážnice ("Strážnicko") belongs to the folklore area of Slovácko.This region consists of ten villages that founded the Local Active Group (LAG) in 2005.It is a bunch of ten villages /Sudomerice, Petrov, Strážnice, Radějov, Tvarožná Lhota, Kněždub, Tasov, Hroznová Lhota, Kozojídky and Žeraviny / spread in a various landscape between the Morava river and the White Carpathians. The LAG´s objective is to develop the natural, cultural and historical resources.

The region of Strážnice is world-known for its folklore involving rich folk costumes and folk songs. The region of Strážnice is an area of high-quality wines coming especially from the vineyards located at the foothills of the White Carpathians. The region of Strážnice is an area of virgin nature with flowery meadows and deep forests, protected by biosphere UNESCO-reserve and the network NATURA 2000.

The region of Strážnice attracts its visitors with giant service trees, beautiful orchids or well-known artists - painter Joža Uprka and sculptor Franta Úprka.

Even you can join the developing activities as a partner of the "Strážnicko" LAG within in the projects Leader+ 2007-13. The developing activities run in three lines: support of local activities, development of tourism and countryside revival.


THE CASTLE AND THE CASTLE PARK The Straznice castle – originally a water castle – was founded in the latter half of the 13th century, later rebuilt in Renaissance style. It served as a watch-house. /Here from its name. Watch house = Straznice./ Nowadays, the National Institute of Folk Culture seats here /see the front page/. There is a permanent exposition of „Folk instruments of the Czech Republic“ and the Castle library. The castle is surrounded by an informal park with the longest plane alley in Central Europe founded in the former half of the 19th century. Amphitheatres, a summer cinema, lakes, a dendrology path with educational boards and many benches are part of the park.
