[edit] Related ethnicities to the English

Why are you so intent on adding German? What historical basis do you have for this? What understanding have you got of British history, migration, formation of the English state and German state to come to this conclusion? Enzedbrit 21:11, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Is Branagh Irish ? I mean he was born in Ulster, but its says hes British or English. Maybe he was an Ulster Scot, but does that deserve mention as being Irish ? Also ignore the fool above you, Germans should be included on the English page because of: related language, culture, history, and ancestry/genealogy. 65.92.94.115 11:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
He was born on the Island of Ireland, so he meets the major requirement for being called Irish. His article on Wikipedia describes him as being a "Northern Irish-born British actor and film director", which seems reasonable to me. See the short discussion the the talk page. It was you who started the personal attacks. Why are you so keen to see the English linked with the Germans? I can only assume that you wish to belittle or insult the English in some way. TharkunColl 10:24, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Why are you so set against the Germans? Nothing to do with Little Englander 2 World WArs and One World Cup mentality? Love the Dambusters, do you? Let's b e frank, a quick look at the pages you edit and one can see where your sympathies lie, English nationalist and xenophobic. I want the Germans there in the interest of historical accuracy, nothing more. I'd like to discuss that with someone who was reasonable, not a rabid, Daily Mail, George's flag waving... etc., (Stpaul 10:35, 10 June 2006 (UTC))

And you have the nerve to accuse me of personal attacks? I detest football and can't stand war films - or war, for that matter. I've had a lot of arguments on the Falkland Islands talk page on this very subject, because so many of them are supporters of the Argentine fascist state's invasion of 1982. I hate fascism which might give you an idea of why I feel no kinship with the Germans. German history is littered with autocracy and dictatorships, which is very different from traditional English values. They are not like us. TharkunColl 10:42, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

How ironic. Elizabeth I was a despot, as were Oliver Cromwell, Longshanks, George III, William the Bastard, etc. And, as I said, where is this democracy that you're happy to go on about. I believe it wasn't until the 20th century that Westminster gave the vote to the common man; nor should we forget the struggle for Catholic emancipation; or indeed the real "democracy" of the highland clearances. You clearly have a personal dislike of the English which makes your edits suspect I'm afraid. But, to refute your specific examples, William the Bastard was not English, but Norman. He inflicted terrible repressions on the English people after conquering them. His descendants did the same in Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. As for Cromwell, after his death his head was stuck up on a spike by the restored monarchical government of Charles II, precisely because he was a tyrant and regicide. Now you're being unfair to me: I've never said anything against the English (indeed I have a much closer connection to England and Britain than most foreigners); you, on the other hand, have clearly said that you don't like the Germans. I'm not editing the German people page, so whether I like them or not is irrelevant. In fact, I don't dislike any specific individual Germans. What I dislike is autocracy, fascism, and the sort of people and political mentalities that support it. TharkunColl 11:06, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

I am simply supporting the consensus, which is to only include nations of the British Isles. As a matter of fact, I think the Germans are a lot closer to us than the French, but someone else has been trying to argue the opposite and at the same time push all sorts of medievalist, aristocratic fantasies.
