The college is named after Sir David Stow, whose primary teaching seminary was founded close to the college at Dundasvale. Stow was the the first purpose-built Further Education college in Glasgow, celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2004. [1]
Traditionally an engineering college, Stow has now diversified [2] into ICT, social sciences, women's studies, business studies and music [3]. The college also has a large trade union education department.
Lecturers therein include Pam Currie. The college's Music and Creative Industries department includes a number of former professional musicians including Stuart Woody Wood, fomerly of the Bay City Rollers, Alan Rankine (The Associates) and Ken McCluskey (The Bluebells). The college's music label Electric Honey released Belle and Sebastian's first album, Tigermilk in 1996.
