Storytellings

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 'tellings' were an integral part of Celtic clan life. At feasts, celebrations, the death of great kings, etc. the Bards would recite (tell) the story of the clan. In many, if not most, instances these were pieces of lore--an 'embellished' or 'heroic' history so to speak--handed down over generations through the great bardic singers/tellers. In a given 'telling' upwards of 20,000 memorized verses might recited over the course of several days. 'Storytellings' is becoming the modern day derivatives of 'tellings'.
