Storm Front is the eighth episode of the SciFi Channel science-fiction series the Dresden Files.
[edit] Plot synopsis
When local gangster Tommy Thompson and college student Jennifer Randall are found dead with their hearts exploded out of their chests, Harry informs Lt. Murphy that the murder weapon was "black magic, as black as it gets." Believing that Dresden is their culprit but unable to prove it, the High Council gives Harry one chance to prove his innocence. Harry learns that one of Jennifer's friends, Grace Cutler, died of an overdose a year earlier, and calls Arcane journalist Susan Rodriguez for information. After narrowly escaping an attack by a Spite Demon, Harry follows a lead that reveals another of Jennifer's friends, Linda Atwater, dead, and discovers that all three girls were connected to the vampire Bianca. And when Harry discovers that Grace inherited the magical talent from her father, he realizes that he is the killer's next target with less than 24 hours to find his suspect.
[edit] Trivia
- This episode, based on and sharing its title with Jim Butcher's debut Dresden novel, was originally slated as the two-hour series premiere, but was later edited down to an hour long episode due to production issues, including recasting.
- Detective Kirmani makes reference to the fantasy film phenomena of the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Harry Potter series, as well as mentioning Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings.
- Harry explains that he was named for magician Harry Houdini, whom Kirmani incorrectly likens to Bozo the Clown.
- Bob does not appear in this episode as Terrance Mann had not yet been hired at the time of filming.
- Harry is briefly seen examining a rusting blue Volkswagen Beetle like the Blue Beetle from the novels.
- Ancient Mai is portrayed by a different actress (Elizabeth Thai) in this episode than in "Bad Blood" (Jane McLean); Harry's comment — that she looks "younger" — addresses that discrepancy.
- Dresden's building is shown to have a basement concealed under a trapdoor in his living room, similar to his lab in the novels.
- Linda's vanity license plate reads 1SXYLIMO.
- Harry is shown to own a large orange cat.
