IMDb profile |
Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot is a 1992 comedy film starring Sylvester Stallone, Estelle Getty and JoBeth Williams. Critically panned, it was awarded 3 Golden Raspberry awards, including Worst Actor.
The film's plot centers around a tough cop whose life is turned upside down when his nosy, pushy mother comes for a visit, and eventually helps him solve the case he's working on.
The film was a rare foray into comedy for Stallone, and was given a wide release largely based on his reputation, with his name prominently featured on the marquee at theaters. Due to the placement of the lettering at several theaters, movie fans report that the title was displayed at some theaters as "STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT SYLVESTER STALLONE".
On Fox Sports' "The Best Damn Sports Show Period", Stallone was a guest when another guest, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Booker MacFarland told Stallone that he saw this film in the theater and that Stallone owed him $20. Stallone paid up.
[edit] Reviews
Reviews for the film were overwhelmingly negative. It has a 6% rating at Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of only 3.1 out of 10 on the IMDB. Film critic Roger Ebert's review declared: "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot is one of those movies so dimwitted, so utterly lacking in even the smallest morsel of redeeming value, that you stare at the screen in stunned disbelief."
