Stonehouse Creek

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stonehouse Creek, in Plymouth (England), is also known as Stonehouse Lake (on many maps) and Tinkies by the local people. The upper reaches of Stonehouse Creek, now Victoria Park were formerly known as the Deadlake and it is frequently marked as such on early maps of the locality. This area was filled in to celebrate the 60 year reign of Queen Victoria (1813–1901). The lower reaches of the creek were filled in from 1960s onwards and is now a recreation ground and home to the Stonehouse Creek Social & Recreation Club.

On either side of the Creek were Royal Naval and Royal Military hospitals, patients for the naval hospital being landed at a jetty. The army hospital is now Devonport High School for boys.
