Stolberg-Stolberg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stolberg-Stolberg was a County of southwestern Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, located in the southern Harz region around Stolberg. Stolberg-Stolberg was twice created; first as a partition from Stolberg-Wernigerode in 1583, and secondly as a partition of Stolberg-Ortenberg in 1704. Stolberg-Stolberg endured one partition: in 1669 in which it was partitioned between itself and Stolberg-Ortenberg. Stolberg-Stolberg surrendered its fiscal independence to the Electorate of Saxony, although it was mediatised to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815.

The children of Fürsten and Erbprinzen zu Stolberg-Wernigerode bear the title Prince[ss] zu Stolberg- Wernigerode (Serene Highness). Other members of this line bear the title Graf/Gräfin zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (Illustrious Highness).
