Stockholm Public Library
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stockholm Public Library (Swedish: Stockholms stadsbibliotek) is located in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Construction began in 1924, and the library was completed in 1928. It was designed by Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund and is one of the most recognisable buildings in Stockholm. This building is sometimes referred to as Asplundhuset (the Asplund house), as to not confuse it with later additions to the library complex.
The name is used for both the building in which the main library is situated as well as the organization of public libraries in Stockholm. The organization as a whole has over 2 million books and 2.4 million audio tapes, CDs and AV media including audio books.
An international contest has been announced for an additional library building (projected for 2013) near the Stockholm Public Library.
