[edit] History

The series was initially known as ASCAR but changed in 2004 after a request from NASCAR as the names were very similar. In 2003, It took on the additional name of "Days of Thunder" after the Tom Cruise film of the same name. This was done as a marketing tool as starting in this year they promoted the series as a day out for all the family and had appearances from bands such as Busted and The Darkness. The series was still officially known as ASCAR.

From 2004, the name ASCAR was dropped altogther and the series was labelled as the "Days of Thunder Racing Series".

In 2005, the current name of "Stock Car Speed Association" (SCSA) was created after a link-up with the American Speed Association and incorporated the Pickup Truck Racing Series under the same banner, which had accompanied the races since 2003.

In 2006 the SCSA and Pickup Truck Racing ran at Rockingham as part of the Thunder Sundays package organised by the BRSCC. This looks set to continue for the 2007 season.

[edit] Tracks

All of the SCSA's races are currently held at Rockingham. The have also raced at Eurospeedway in Germany but have not been there since 2003 due to the costs involved and the projected grid numbers of cars willing to make the journey.

There is some debate around whether to take the series to a selection of road courses around the UK to help gain a footing with more mainstream UK motor racing fans.
