Stigand of Selsey

You might be looking for Stigand, the last Saxon Archbishop of Canterbury.

Stigand, last Bishop of Selsey and first Bishop of Chichester.

Stigand was appointed Bishop of Selsey in 1070 within a week of the deposition of Æthelric II; in 1075 the South Saxon see was transferred to Chichester [1].

Stigand was then Bishop of Chichester until his death in 1087 (Fryde & others 1986).
