Sticking

The combination of hits from either hand that build a percussion rhythm. In notation, an R denotes a hit with the right hand, an L with the left. Single sticking is RLRL or LRLR continuous. Standard sticking begins on the right hand, and hit of counts 1 and + lie on that hand. Counts E + A fall onto the left hand. In duplets, standard sticking can divide each beat. In quarter note or triplets, standard sticking falls in withe single sticking. Double stroke sticking is either RRLL or LLRR. Further sticking examples continue such as triple and quadruple strokes.


R--------------------> denotes that all is to be played with the right hand until a different sticking appears

(RL)-----------------> indicates that single strokes are to be used until a different sticking appears

L--------------------> indicates that, in a repeat, the first time will be played with the right hand only, and the second time will be played in the left hand.
