Hi. Would you mind explaining your statement that Liv Tyler is an Italian-American. There is no mention of it in the articles about her father or mother. DJ Clayworth 19:35, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Italian-Argentines category
Roughly half of all Argentines would qualify. Superfluous IMHO. Best, elpincha 20:22, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Italian-American categories
Hello, I have listed two of your categories, Category:Italian-American jurists and Category:Italian-American activists, on Wikipedia:Categories for deletion, and I believe my reasons for doing so may apply to other categories that you have been working on. It would be great if you could add your comments to the deletion discussion page so we might understand why you created these and what you think they add to wikipedia. In the meantime, it might be better to refrain from working on these until there is a community resolution of whether these should stay, so as to prevent any wasted time. Thanks! [edit] Italian-Canadian politicians
Firstly, members of many Canadian ethnic groups support politicians from their own communities. Italians are not unique in this regard. Secondly, we don't list Canadian politicians of any other cultural background in distinct "[Culture]-Canadian politicians" categories. There's no reason why Canadian politicians of Italian heritage should get special treatment that other groups don't get.
Any category that can simultaneously include Giuseppe Gori, Joe Fratesi, Rosario Marchese, Rick Fuschi, Alfonso Gagliano, Larry Di Ianni, Joe Peschisolido and Nick Discepola simply isn't telling me anything helpful about these people. They have no meaningful connection to each other. The category doesn't help me understand their ideology: Marchese's an NDPer and Fuschi's a neoconservative. It doesn't put them in an objective political context: Gagliano and Discepola are federal MPs, while Fuschi and Gori are party activists who've never held elected political office in their lives. It doesn't put them in a regional context: Gagliano's from Montreal and Peschisolido's from Vancouver. It doesn't even tell me that they identify with a cultural group that faces discrimination in Canadian society. All it tells me is that they're of Italian heritage, but for one thing, that isn't inherently meaningful information in the particular context of Canadian politics, and for another, 99% of the time I could already figure that out anyway, just by looking at their name.
I see that several other similar categories of yours have already been deleted, telling me that not everybody agrees with you on the value of these groupings. Judging by your posting history, you have no interest in Canadian politics other than reorganizing the articles to fit your larger agenda of subtopics for every loosely definable group of Italian-surnamed people you happen to find. Do you have any understanding of what's a key issue in Canadian politics and what isn't?
And anyway, the onus isn't on me to justify the category's lack of value; it's on you to justify why it is warranted. Bearcat 05:58, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tina M
Hi: i noticed that you had hooked Tina M up with some Italian-American link. Depending, of course, on how you choose to define your use of the term "American," Tina probably does not fit it. Although she lived in America [ie, the United States of] she was never an American citizen and likely never considered her self to be American. "Italian -Mexican Someting" works just fine Carptrash 03:10, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Lavrenty Beria
Why did you add him to the list of exonerated Soviet death sentences? The article states that the Russian Supreme Court refused to overturn his convictions. Does "well, no, he didn't commit treason and espionage, but he did commit torture, murder, and rape" constitute exoneration? --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 17:35, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cryptographer recats
Hi, just noticed your work on recategorising cryptographers according to nationality. I've one suggestion: perhaps it would be better to divide them into modern cryptographers and non-modern? I think this would be a more useful distinction to the reader. (Modern meaning after, say, 1970). — Matt Crypto 01:44, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Edit summary
Hi and thank you for your categorization work. I have just one remark. If not too troublesome, could you provide an edit summary when you make changes to articles? For example, if you put an article in a new category, you can just paste that thing in the edit summary window, like this
[[Category:Pre-computer cryptographers|Beurling, Arne]]
or, otherwise, just type "refine category" (if you use a browser like Mozilla, it will remember what you typed, and next time you don't need to type it again). Thanks, and enjoy! Oleg Alexandrov 03:59, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Let me back off a bit. For minor edits, an edit summary could probably be skipped. (It is nice to have it even then, though :) Oleg Alexandrov 04:03, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Murdered royalty etc.
Please stop for a while and discuss with other people what ewxactly are you doing and why do you think it is reasonable to draw distinction between "murdered royalty" vs. "executed royalty", especially bearing in mind the distinction is a matter of the point of view. Let us discuss this at a talk page of, say, category:Dead people, which should be the common root of all assassinated/murdered/executed. Also, I believe there is a general mess in all these subcategories, to be untangled uniformly. Mikkalai 18:40, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Fatally crashed aviators
Should we place in this category also shot-down aviators? I don't think so? (that would be some half of war pilots). Pibwl 18:14, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Muckrackers
.. should, if at all, be Category:Muckrakers (to rake). However, I am not quite sure if such subcategorization of Category:Investigative journalists makes sense --Ktotam 00:59, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Italian-American mobsters
Hello Stefanomione. Sorry to bother you but I noticed you re-added Category:Italian-American mobsters and while I'm certanly relieved to see it back, especially having moved the entierity of Italian mafiosi to the category several days before it's deletion, I was led to believe by User:RedWolf the ethnicity categories were being phased out. I would be more then happy to move the articles into the category but I'd hate to see it deleted again. Thanks for your time. 209.213.71.78 20:20, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Richie Evans
I see you did a bit of categorization work on this page. If you care, I've added some material and will be doing more soon. None should affect categories. Barno 03:14, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Iraq War people
What do you mean by the category of Iraq War people? Ariele 20:25, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:U.S. Army soldiers in Iraq
Eh, most of the people that you listed there are not *in* Iraq. They are either veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom or were former soldiers that participated in it. —Joseph | Talk 05:46, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] lots of edits, not an admin
Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 14:24, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] African-Italian-Americans
I do not think an African-Italian-American category is a good idea, because although some people have that mix, it is not really an ethnic group of it's own like being Irish-Italian. I might put up a CFD for it, but I'll let you respond to my comments now before I put it up. 64.109.248.118 21:00, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Geography of Sicily
Hi, please do not make blank pages. They are not very helpful. You can use {{db|your reason for deletion}} to get rid of pages you have made accidentally. I deleted the Geography of Sicily because it contained only a category tag anyway. jni 06:06, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Abandoned submarine categories
You have created and abandoned several submarine categories in the past few weeks. But they are just going to hang around given how you are doing it. You created the categories, and have been the only signifigant user, so they IMHO qualify for speedy deletion. Please see Wikipedia:Speedy deletions for information on how to request speedy deletion for pages. Basically, you need to stick certain templates in the body of the categories you want removed. You appear to have been sticking a template in the change comments of the categories, but that does not work.
Categories I've been able to easily find that meet these circustances include: Category:U.S. sunken submarines Category:Sunken submarines by country Category:Lost Japanese submarines during World War II Category:Soviet/Russian sunken submarines Category:British sunken submarines Category:U.S. submarines lost before World WarII Category:Sunk U-boats
There may be others, but these are the ones I find with a quick search. TexasAndroid 21:18, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Category:Jewish diaspora has been nominated for deletion. See Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 October 16. IZAK 04:16, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Sicilian architects
Hi, I see you have created Category:Sicilian architects, I wrote quite a few brief biographies of Sicilian architects here Category:Sicilian Baroque. However, I did not create a category for them, because, I don't think there are enough to warrant it. Many architects notable for their work in Sicily Giulio Lasso and Stefano Ittar for instance are not actually Sicilian. So the problem will be filling the category. If you are planning a series of article on Sicilian architects I would be pleased to help you out, but I think at the moment the category is a little premature. I shan't nominate it for deletion, but I think you should be ready with some arguments as some one will no doubt shortly do so. Giano | talk 13:19, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

- Look I don't want to be difficult, but I created Category: Sicilian Baroque I wrote practically every article in it, but it was always going to to be a very small category, lets face it it has limited interest value; now you have created Category:Architects of the Sicilian Baroque this will be an even smaller category, surely it is better to have one all encompassing category for all concerned with Sicilian Baroque, which people can find and then decide in which direction they wish to research, no one is going to find their way around this minefield of small categories. Incidentally if you are interested the page Sicilian Baroque is currently a featured article candidate, why not have a look and see what you think, I am keen to see some Italian subjects on the main page one day. Regards Giano | talk 17:04, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I'll assume your'e silence is assent and agreement with me, and revert the architects to Category:Sicilian Baroque. I'll wait until you've made some edits after the date/time of thismessage to be sure you've had the opportunity to read and respond. Giano | talk 10:57, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Stefanomione, You can write to me in French, German, Italian or English. I understand them all, some better than others. I always speak English here. Your English does not have to be very good to edit here, people will always help you, many people here seem to think my English is not very good either! If you want to communicate with someone you can always send me the message first, and I'll try and fix it for you before you send it. Leave the architects where you have put them, it doesn't matter to be honest very much any more. Good luck with the categories, it's a useful job to do. Giano | talk 22:25, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Hi Stefan, it occurred to me that people often only come here to complain, and never acknowledge all the good work you do sifting the pages into categories. So here's a barn star, and keep up the good work. Giano | talk 16:19, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

- PS: You can put it on your main user page if you want to.
[edit] Request to administrators to eliminate category
Hi, Stefanomione. I noticed your edit summaries ADMINISTRATORS, ELIMINATE!!! on some categories you'd created. I went ahead and deleted the ones that nobody else had edited. It's easier, though, for admins to find such requests if you put them on the page itself, in the form of a speedy delete template. Please see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion for lists of lots of different speedy templates. The most useful form is {{deletebecause|Reason}}, where you put your own reason in. For instance, for a cat that you have created, and nobody else has edited, I suggest {{deletebecause|original creator requests it and nobody else has edited it}}. That will both expand to a pink box on the page, and put the page into Category: Candidates for speedy deletion (that's the reason I can't show it expanded here--that would put this page into the category "Candidates for speedy deletion"--not ideal!).
Nice barnstar! Best wishes, Bishonen | talk 23:48, 30 October 2005 (UTC).
[edit] God knows!
To be honest I'm not sure what you wanted to do, it looks fine to me now, but I'm not an expert on lists. If you want to indent a paragraph you have to do all that hatch and mash stuff, I don't know how to do that. Just don't worry about it and remember È la gaia pioggerella a far crescer l'erba bella so keep trying. I've asked Bishonen to take a quick look, she is very clever at things like that! Giano | talk 20:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Your list
Hi, Stefano. The big problem that tripped you up at first was that all lines you type need to start right over on the left-hand side; if they don't, there will be all sorts of problems with the display. This was the glitch that Tabor went in and fixed: s/he removed all the spaces at the beginnings of lines.
If you want the line displayed on the page to not start immediately on the left, you type a suitable number of colons at the head of it.
A list is usually done with bullet points, not headings, so I've formatted the page accordingly. The bullets are made by typing asterisks. You can just revert to Giano's version if you think I've made the names too small, or drop a line on my page and I'll revert it myself. It's non-standard to have any links in headings, though. Best wishes, Bishonen|talk 23:37, 17 November 2005 (UTC).

[edit] Fictional Italian-American mobsters
I noticed that the Category you created, "Fictional Italian-American mobsters", is likely headed for deletion. I understand that categories like this take quite some time to develop and flesh out, yet this particular one appears to be unwelcome at Wikipedia, unless I'm misunderstanding the argument. I hope that you will continue your work here at Wikipedia. However, just so you know, there are also other wikis out there that might very well welcome such a Category project as yours. You might start by looking at Wikia.com, Centiare.com, or PBwiki.com. If you feel that this message is too spammy, you are welcome to delete it from your discussion page. --JossBuckle Swami 13:31, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
