Please note the recent and far more convincing interpretation of the first lines as forwarded by Lillemor Santesson, Fornvännen 84 (1989). She segments the text as "niu(n) hAborumR, niu(n) ha(n)gestumR" - 'with nine he-goats, with nine stallions' (gave H. a good year), the stone would thus commemorate an animal sacrifice. "hAborumR" would be etymologically connected to Latin 'caper', German 'Haber-(geiss)', "ha(n)gestumR" evidently to English 'hengist', German 'Hengst', etc.

Thanks! That does indeed sound like a realistic interpretation. Feel free to integrate that into the article.--Wiglaf 19:07, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
