Steven Gillespie (born 4 June 1985 in Liverpool) is an English professional footballer currently playing for Cheltenham Town
Gillespie, a technically gifted striker, began his career as a trainee for Liverpool.
In 2004, without many opportunities he was released and was quickly signed by Bristol City of Coca-Cola League One. He continued to find himself without many chances and later in 2004 was sent on-loan to Cheltenham Town of League Two, where he scored 4 goals in 5 appearances and instantly became a favourite with the teams supporters.
He then once again joined Cheltenham on-loan at the end of the 2004-2005 season, and again in the first half of the 2005-2006 season, scoring a further 5 goals.
Much to the delight of Cheltenham's fans he signed a permanent 2-and-a-half year contract in January of 2006. He is held in high regard by the Cheltenham faithful. Gillespie is one of five former Bristol City players at Cheltenham, with others being Damien Spencer, Scott Brown, Kayode Odejayi and Mickey Bell.
