Steve "Turbo" Robinson

Steve Robinson (born 17 October 1975, Nottingham) is an English footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or right wing back.

Nicknamed Turbo, Robinson began his career at Birmingham City having loan spells with Kidderminster Harriers and Peterborough United during his time at St. Andrews. Robinson played close to 100 games for Birmingham before joining Swindon Town after a prolonged saga for £50,000 in 2001.

His arrival at the club coincided with a run of just one defeat in nine games, which ultimately helped save the Town from relegation. Robinson made himself a hit almost immediately with the Swindon supporters, by scoring two spectacular volleys in a local derby against bitter rivals Oxford United - Swindon won 2-0. Robinson didn't score again for another 22 months in a 5-2 win at Stockport County in January 2003.

A hard-working midfielder unfortunately had his season cut short in late January 2004 when a crunching tackle left him with a broken fibula. At the end of the season, Robinson was offered a new year's deal.

In his final season for Swindon, Robinson was very much a squad player and it was clear he wouldn't be offered a new deal. A proposed move to his childhood team, Notts County, seemed to be a 'done-deal' at one stage, but it fell through following managerial changes at Meadow Lane. Robinson later admitted that this was one of the lowest points of his career.

"An end-of-season injury crisis led to a recall for Robinson, and over four months since his previous appearance in the first team, he came on for the last fifteen minutes of the last game against Chesterfield. He got a great reception - the fans remembering the goals at Oxford that endeared him to them four years previously - and Robinson later appeared in the Evening Advertiser to thank them for helping to rekindle his enthusiasm for the game."

In the summer of 2005 Robinson joined League Two outift Lincoln City but injuries early into his career meant he did not appear in the 1st team until late September, a 2-0 win at home to Stockport County. However, Robinson failed to break into the team and was sent out on loan to Worksop Town to regain his fitness. Robinson returned to make another 10 outings for Lincoln before being released in May 2006.
