Steve Martland (born 10 October 1959, Liverpool, England) is an English composer.

His music is often aggressive and hard edged, showing influence from minimalism as well as rock music, bearing some similarity in this regard to the work of Louis Andriessen (with whom he studied) and Michael Nyman.

Martland founded and composes for an amplified ensemble called The Steve Martland Band. He was one of the artists signed to the Manchester based record label Factory Records in the 1980s.

Martland lives in the finsbury park area of North London.

He has most recently been commissioned by the Manchester International Festival to complete a musical score for a feature length film working with Greg Hall (Director of THE PLAGUE) entitled KAPITAL (2007). The is being improvised with no script, based loosely areound fairy tales, and the score is being written and composed by Martland without watching the film. Editor Paco Sweetman will cut with the music. It will premiere in the summer of 2007.
