He has an older sister named Jenn. Around 1993 he met future Sum 41 frontman, Deryck Whibley. They became the first two members of the band, which formed out of two rival bands July 31, 1996 (41 days into the SUMmer). Jocz is the youngest in the band. For drums, he uses Drum Workshop and for sticks, he uses Vic Firth. Jocz is Pain in Sum 41's alter-ego band Pain for Pleasure. He has also appeared on MTV Cribs.
At Sum 41, he is known for his outspoken personality and toilet humour in interviews. He is one of the less quiet members of the band and is often considered the frontman of the band because of his outgoing personality and the fact he often takes over interviews. He is also a controversial person, as one of the leaders of Punk Voter and one of the best known artists against George W. Bush, he often includes political messages in his interviews.
