Steve Gromek

Stephen Joseph "Steve" Gromek (b. January 15, 1920, Hamtramck, Michigan – d. January 15, 2002) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played seventeen seasons in the American League with the Cleveland Indians (1941-1953) and Detroit Tigers (1953-1957).

An All-Star in 1945, Gromek posted a 19-9 won-loss record with a 3.26 ERA. In Game 4 of the 1948 World Series, Gromek pitched one game, defeating the Boston Braves in a complete game win. He was traded mid-season to the Tigers in 1953. In his first full season with the team, Gromek went 18-16 with a 2.74 ERA and 17 complete games.

In 1981, Gromek became a member of the National Polish-American Hall of Fame.

He died on his 82nd birthday of undisclosed causes.
