Steve Frew

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steve Frew (born 6 February 1973, Falkirk, Scotland) is a Scottish gymnast.

He took gold in the men's rings at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England at the age of 30. He competed in his fifth Games in Melbourne in 2006, where he narrowly missed out on bronze in the team event.

His 2002 victory was significant as he had only been able to devote himself to gymnastics part time, owing to limited funding for the sport in Scotland. As such, he was only expected to take bronze at best. Frew has since spoken out against the chronic underfunding of gymnastics in Scotland.[1]

Frew has also appeared as a competitor on television in the BBC 3 series Hercules, and was a member of the team representing Glasgow in the ITV game show Simply the Best.
