Steve Coates

Steve Coates was born July 2, 1950 in Toronto, Canada, and is a broadcaster/color commentator for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Coates spent four seasons with the Michigan Tech Huskies before inking a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1973. Coates, a right winger, never played a single game for the Flyers. Instead, he spent the majority of the next four seasons in the minors until a February 1977 trade sent him to the Detroit Red Wings.
With the 'Wings, Coates got into five games and scored 1 goal for his only NHL point. Coates returned to the minors for good following his brief stint in Detroit.
Coates split the next three years between the Central Hockey League and the American Hockey League. He retired from the sport following the 1979-80 season, a year he spent with the Syracuse Firebirds.
Coates returned to hockey in 1982, joining the Philadelphia Flyers broadcast team, where he remains to this day.
