Steve Bedernjak
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Steven J. Bedernjak was originally born Harper Marks but changed his name for his acting career as there was already a Harper Marks in the Canadian Screen Actors Guild. Governmental laws and guild regulations did not permit two actors to have the same stage name. (On a side note, the other Harper Marks was most well-known as the voice of the Harry Hippo puppet in the short-lived CBC children's drama, "The Dead.") In choosing his stage name, Bedernjak selected the name Stephen as it was the first name of a masked intruder who raped a young girl in his neighbourhood. In "Cana-Star Gazette," he reflected, "...it was powerful. This event shaped my childhood experience and I was obsessed with the case. I knew it was wrong but I wanted to feel that exhilaration. I wanted to do anything. I was going to break into Hollywood showbiz and needed a name of power and foreboding to give me the courage." (Sept, 1987, p. 45). The name Bedernjak, of course, came from the name of the mighty hammer wielded by the god Thor's cousin, Melina. Steven was and will always be a fan of the Thor character and its many associated characters.
