Steregushchy class corvette

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Designated Project 2038.0 (or 20380) by the Russian Government. This is the newest corvette of the Russian Navy.

[edit] Programme

The ships are being built by Severnaya Verf shipyard in St.Petersburg

Steregushchy (Watchful) - Lead ship, scheduled to be delivered in the winter of 2007.
Boikiy (Sharp (intelligent))- second ship in the series, almost completed.
Soobrazitelniy(Smart (intelligent)) - third ship, under construction.

In total, the Russian Navy have publicly announced that they expect to buy at least 20 of these ships.

However, only one has been launched and three more laid down since the programme started. Given the evidence of long delays explained in Kommersant - - here, and the stunted state of Russian shipbuilding since the fall of the Soviet Union, it seems unlikely that anything like twenty vessels will ever enter service.
