Stephen Tindall

Stephen Robert Tindall, (born May 1951), is the founder of New Zealand retailer, The Warehouse and considered the Bill Gates of New Zealand.

In 1995 he and his wife set up the Tindall Foundation, to give himself and The Warehouse a better image.

The New Zealand Herald named him Business Person of the Year for 1997, the year he became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

In 1998, he was named the Deloitte–New Zealand Management magazine Executive of the Year.

Two universities - AUT and Massey, bestowed honorary doctorates on him in subsequent years.

In 2006, he was awarded the Blake Medal on behalf of the Sir Peter Blake Trust in recognition of his outstanding leadership contributions to New Zealand.

The retail business he created has caused the closure of many local businesses in cities and towns around New Zealand.
