From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephen Pelham Pound, commonly known as Steve Pound, [1] (born 3 July 1948) is the Labour member of Parliament for Ealing North, in London, and has been an MP since 1997.

He graduated from the London School of Economics. In January of 2005 it was revealed that Pound, now married and the father of two, had an illegitimate daughter when he was eighteen years old. In May 2005, Pound appeared on British TV quiz show Have I Got News For You and in December of that year in a special edition of University Challenge.

He served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Hazel Blears until he resigned in protest at the decision to replace Trident on March 14, 2007.[2]

His nickname, "Punch", derives from his hooked nose, scissor lips and jutting chin, resulting in his uncanny likeness to the grotesque Commedia dell'Arte character Mr Punch.[citation needed]

Pound is a Fulham F.C. fan.

Steve Pound is referred to by 'Private Eye' magazine as "Ealing North's tattooed bruiser". This refers to the fact that he used to box for the Merchant Navy, and has several tattoos. He is a keen motorcyclist. Before becoming an MP he worked for a Housing Association. In his past he has also been an undertaker.
