[edit] Radio career

An alumnus of Xavier College, Stephen J Peak first appeared in radio in 1985 as the "third man" in the 3RRR highly rated show called "Lawyers, Guns & Money". He fell out with Ross Stevenson (now 3AW) at the end of 1985 and left the program. A few guest appearances followed on 3CR and Ballarat Radio, but it was not until he was recruited by Scot Palmer of "The Sunday Herald-Sun" and Leon Weigard at Sport 927 in 1994 that his profile bloomed.

He has worked with most of the Sport 927 talent since then, but now locked in with Andrew Kuuse on "Sportstalk" with Howard Leigh, the well-known boxing ring announcer and journalist. They appear in a program aptly entitled "The Odd Couple", encompassing their flair, humour and sports pazzazz.

[edit] Mid-1990s

Peak, along with Jack Hammond QC and Juliette Brodsky, won the 1996 CBAA Award for the 3RRR show "Better Get A Lawyer". High profile guests on this show included the then-Governor of Victoria Richard McGarvie and the controversial John Elliott.

1996 also saw Peak appear regularly on the Wednesday night law show on 3AW radio with Nick Pappas, the former Chief Stipendary Magistrate of Victoria, on the aptly titled "Talking Law and Order".

[edit] World Sport Overnight (2004-)

Tony Schibeci from SEN 1116 recruited Stephen J Peak in May, 2004, who in turn brought Howard Leigh and Troy Zantuck into the SEN family to create the hilarious and informative night time show Gladiators of Sport, a part of World Sport Overnight. Schibeci allows the "Gladiators" plenty of licence to create mayhem, and the team never lets him down or the appreciative audience. Rumoured to be a more popular show than 3AW's night time program with Keith McGowan.

On the show Peak has come up with numerous memorable catchphrases and coined the now oft-used term "Unleash the Peak" - which he jokingly says he will use as part of a T-shirt range. Peak is continually ridiculed on the show for his bias shown towards the St Kilda Football Club (and also regarding the sacking of Trent Knobel, a player St Kilda offloaded that has proved Peak to be correct, given his tenuous position now at the Richmond Football Club.)

Peak's radio mannerisms include his use of jargon and numerous large words taken from his experience as a lawyer.

[edit] Lawyer/management roles

Stephen J Peak has a long history of involvement in sports management and sports law cases, including managing Tony Campbell and Richard Osborne in their efforts to obtain American football contracts in 1993-1994, the marketing of the "Campbell-Peak Football Glove" in 1992 onwards, and his involvement with such former AFL Players as Doug Hawkins, Greg Eppelstun, Derek Hall and John Stevens.

Peak has varied his interest in sport and provided legal advice to the Australian Womens Water Polo Team prior to the 2000 Olympics when the team was threatened with exclusion - it is understood Peak advised them to take the matter to the United Nations Committee for Discrimination if they had have been left out.

Soccer player management was also briefly attempted with associate Ken Anstey (father and manager of Australian basketballer Chris Anstey) between 1999 and 2001. Peak - along with Anstey - discontinued his involvement in soccer due to its perceived lack of professionalism in that era of the NSL.

Peak also represented well-known prestige car magnate, Nick Theodossi, in his quest to join the Collingwood Football Club board in late 2000. Election campaigning was fiery and controversial, given the Eddie McGuire-led board had only been together since 1999.

Peak has been a practising lawyer for over 20 years and now, as of 2006, based in South Yarra, Melbourne.

Peak has a big involvement in boxing and kick-boxing, mainly now with Peter Maniatis Promotions and Fightforce Promotions (Kick-boxing). He also occasionally appears on Channel 31 on the Peter Maniatis boxing show, "TVH KO BOXING". He is a lawyer to many stars in these sports including Sam Greco, Dale Westerman, Gus Mercurio, Julian Holland.
