Stephen L Harris

Stephen L Harris is Professor and Chair, Department of Humanities and Religious Studies at California State University, Sacramento. Harris is a fellow at the Westearinstitute, was a fellow of the Jesus Seminar, and has written numerous books, many of which are catered to introductory religious study scholars at public universities.
His textbook Understanding the Bible is the best-selling nonsectarian introduction to Bible studies in the U.S. and has been in print over 25 years. It covers the Bible book by book, putting the work in a historical context.
Harris received his PH.D. at Cornell University.
