Stephen Kaung

Stephen Kaung(江守道 pinyin: Jiāng ShǒuDào) is a Christian speaker and writer in Richmond, Virginia. As a teenager, Kaung was converted to Christianity and was active in the Methodist Church in China, with whom his father was a minister. He first met Watchman Nee in the early 1930s and joined Nee's indigenous Christian work full-time, working with him in China until 1949 when he left China and became involved with Christian work in other areas of the world.
In 1952, Kaung moved to New York City where he joined an assembly composed mainly of Chinese immigrants and returned missionaries. He served together with them for several years and they met as a simple, Christ-centered assembly as taught by Watchman Nee. In 1958 he travelled with Witness Lee, another co-worker of Watchman Nee, and they ministered in Europe and Asia sharing their vision of Christ and His Church. After this time the two co-workers increasingly went their separate ways and Kaung no longer associated directly in the work of the so-called Local Church with Witness Lee. Throughout the 1960s, he also worked closely with T. Austin-Sparks as they shared ministry in annual conferences in Maryland.
In 1971, Kaung moved from New York to Washington D.C. to establish his publishing company and from there began to travel in ministry sharing his burden for both the Christ-centered life and church. He later moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he has continued his teaching ministry both locally and abroad. Stephen Kaung's major contribution to the whole church has been to translate the writings of Watchman Nee into English, over 50 titles, which have been published by his own organisation, Christian Fellowship Publishers (CFP), in Richmond, Virginia.
