Stephen Farry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stephen Farry is the General Secretary of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. He was elected to the Assembly in the 2007 election for North Down, having first been elected to North Down Borough Council in 1993.
He has served as the borough's Deputy Mayor, and has played a lead role in slashing rates for residents of the borough to well below the Northern Ireland average.
Dr Farry was prominent in the party's tactics which ensured it held its 6 seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly against all odds in the 2003 election, despite a dramatic fall in its first-preference vote. In 2007 he took a less prominent role in order to focus on his own campaign, but his electoral strategy and hard work won widespread respect as, having been written off again, the party gained an extra seat.
He was appointed an International Peace Scholar by the US Institute of Peace in 2005.
