Stephen E. Robinson

Stephen E. Robinson is a Latter-day Saint scholar and was appointed as chairman of the Department of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University in 1991 where he also received a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in Ancient Scripture. He received a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Duke University and was tenured at Lycoming College after teaching religion there, at Hampden-Sydney College, and Duke. Robinson also served as chairman of the Religion Department at Lycoming.
He views himself as being able to communicate Mormonism to outsiders and particularly to scholars through his writings, and also to effectively speak to members of his own faith in a meaningful and uplifting way.
He once taught college course called "Catholic Thought" and figures that he is the only Mormon to ever do so. (From his book "Are Mormons Christians?")
