The Rt. Rev. Stephen Cottrell b1959-, SCP since 4th May 2004 is the Bishop of Reading, a suffragan to the Bishop of Oxford in the Church of England. He lives in the village of Tidmarsh with his wife and three children. Bishop Cottrell was appointed when Jeffrey John, SCP, controversially withdrew his nomination to the post in 2003.^[1] Cottrell had been a supporter of John's original appointment.

Essex-born Canon Cottrell, who was ordained in 1984, having trained at St Stephen's House in Oxford. Immediately prior to his current post he was Canon Pastor at Peterborough Cathedral.

He said of his nomination:

Although Anglo-Catholic the bishop is a keen evangelist having written several books on the subject among his 38 published titles.^[2]

In 2007 he has publicly opposed the renewal of Britains Trident missile systems^[3]
