Stefano Mauri (born 8 January 1980 in Monza) is an Italian football (soccer) player, plays midfielder role for S.S. Lazio.

Stefano Mauri is regarded as one of the best wingers' in Serie A, adding skill, technique, and a self-less teamplay ethic he has boosted Lazio and made an astonishing contribution even after Lazio were deducted a mass of points due to match fixing. Mauri is two footed and can operate down either wing.

This season he has already scored 7 goals with his fantastic ability to go past players at pace. There is more to Mauri's game than just speed and technique though. He's also an expert crosser of the ball and has created many of the goals for both Tomasso Rocchi and Goran Pandev, which see's them as Serie A's leading strike partnership in 2006-7.

After 7 years of hard work, Stefano Mauri was transferred from Udinese to Lazio where he has made a major impact. With Meda in 1998 when he was only 18, his skills shone through and in his first professional season he scored 9 goals in 30 games for the Division 3 team. In 2001 Modena brought him to Serie B, he spent two seasons their eventually reaching promotion.

Brescia then bought Mauri for a bargain price of £1.5million and in one season he managed to score seven goals, in only his second ever season in Serie A. Udinese then bought him on a free transfer but he didn't adapt with their style of play and was brought to S.S. Lazio where he currently plays.

[edit] International career

Stefano Mauri has so far managed to find 8 caps for the Azzuri five of them being friendlies' and three being Euro 08 qualifiers in the 2006-7 season. Mauri has featured in every squad since the 2006 World Cup.
