Stealth volunteers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stealth Volunteers is an online group based in Yahoo!Groups that was developed by volunteers from all over the country and the world, working on the ground and online to reunite Katrina evacuees with their pets. Originally formed in early September 2005 by founder Marilyn Knapp Litt in order to reunite Hurricane Katrina victims with their human families, after a few weeks it found more need in the recovery of evacuated pets to their owners.

At the time of this writing, most of the work has wound down as the animals have been adopted out, but there are some people still trying to locate evacuated pets' original owners. The primary work has been locating owners, not lost pets.

Stealth Volunteers also started an effort called "Home Safe with Stealth", a program for people to implement to assist their local animal control facility. Volunteers apply SV's "stealth techniques" to find the owners of strays in their own area, and to train for other national emergencies.
