[edit] The Star Wars Saga

Even though it is obvious, The Wookieepedian claims that the Saga is also all the novels, comics, and video games. Well, that is not part of the "Saga", that is the Expanded universe. Copperchair 06:03, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Copperchair, do you even know what the definition of a saga is? It is a long narrative. Now, this can work for any long story. The Star Wars story is made up of films, books, comics, games. All of this makes up a very, very long, narrative about the history of the star wars galaxy. It fits the definition if you ask me. The Wookieepedian 07:41, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Copperchair; The star wars databank has seperate tabs for movies and expanded universe--If Lucas counts them seperately, we should too. Besides, most definitions of 'saga' define it as singular & focused, while the expanded universe deals with many smaller, varied stories. Citizen Premier 08:39, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes, the EU and the films are two divisions of Star Wars. But, together they form one complete (albeit gigantic) story, which fits the definition of a saga. Actually, the six films could as well, but since the entire story is larger with the EU, well... The Wookieepedian 08:46, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
Wiktionary defines "saga" as "an epic; a long story." The EU is composed of corollories to that story. Exempli Gratia, "Beowulf" is a saga but the modern novel "Grendel" is not part of that saga, but rather an addition. Citizen Premier 10:33, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

But, the EU doesn't "retell" the story like Grendel. It is considered a continuation of the story that started in the films. Together, it all is supposed to function as one story. The Wookieepedian 10:48, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

  • I agree with The Wookieepedian. There's certainly no sense in having 2 bullet points for one franchise. Because Star Wars isn't just the films and the EU. It's also all of the out of continuity marketing stuff and the fandom. -LtNOWIS 18:08, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
    • And besides, the main Star Wars page links to the Expanded Universe article, anyway. The Wookieepedian 22:48, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
