Statistics South Africa is the national statistics board of South Africa. It was established after the Statistics Act, no. 6 of 1999, was passed by the Parliament of South Africa. Statistics South Africa was established with the goal of producing timely, accurate, and accessible official statistics in order to advance economic growth, development, and democracy. To this end, Statistics South Africa produces official demographic, economic, and social censuses and surveys. To date, Statistics South Africa has produced two censuses, one for 1996 and 2001.
