State Street Station (New Haven)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State Street Station (also known as New Haven-State Street) is the secondary railroad passenger station in New Haven, Connecticut located 1.8 miles northeast of the primary station in the city, Union Station. The station is the penultimate westbound stop for the majority of Shore Line East runs and is the terminal of Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line for a limited number of peak-hour runs.

[edit] Shore Line East

With the exception of the earliest inbound and latest outbound runs (which run super-express to Old Saybrook or New London), all trains stop here. Travel time to Union Station is approximately two minutes.

[edit] Metro-North

During peak hours, a mixture of "super-express" trains to Grand Central Terminal and locals to Stamford arrive or leave at the station. As of May 2006, the pattern is as follows:

  • To Grand Central: 4 PM runs
  • To Stamford: 2 AM runs
  • From Grand Central: 1 AM run
  • From Stamford: 1 AM run, 2 PM runs

State Street is located 74 miles from Grand Central and the mean travel time is 1 hour, 52 minutes though this varies by run.
