State Major Chutai
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
State Major Chutai was the title of an Imperial Japanese Army Air Service squadron (chutai) commander. The aircraft of such an officer was distinguished by a partly or totally scarlet, red, or orange tail, with a sign identifying the sentai (group) sign to which the chutai belonged.
In the Japanese army these command units used twin-engined planes such as the Mitsubishi Ki-46 or Kawasaki Ki-45, or monoplane fighters like the Nakajima Ki-43, Nakajima Ki-84 or Kawasaki Ki-61.
The colours mentioned above were also used for Japanese Navy training aircraft in training schools, in land bases and special training sea carriers.
In the Imperial Japanese Navy, training aircraft were codified with the letter K .
