State Express Classic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The State Express Classic was a European Tour golf tounament which was played annually from 1979 to 1983. This name was actually only one of four names used in five years, but it was the only one that was used more than once, and the final one. It was hosted by The Belfry, which became a Ryder Cup venue a few years later. Two of the five winners were major championship winners and World Number 1 golfer, namely the Australian Greg Norman and the Spaniard Seve Ballesteros. In 1983 the prize fund was £90,505, which was mid range for a European Tour event at that time.
