"Start of Something New" is a song from the Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical. It also appears on the soundtrack by the same name. It is sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens, who play Troy and Gabriella in the film. It is also sung by Andrew Seeley who wrote Get'cha Head in the Game.

[edit] Synopsis

In the teen party, Troy and Gabriella are relunctantly pushed up by the other kids. The emcee asks that "Someday, you guys are going to thank me for this... or not." Troy looks over at Gabriella as the song begins and explains that "Living in my own world," he "didn't understand that anything can happen when you take a chance." Just as he turns to leave, Gabriella sings the next line more boldly, explaining that she "never believed in what" she "couldn't see," and that she "never opened" her "heart to all the possibilities." Troy realizes that he and Gabriella sings very well, and joins her in the chorus where they tell everyone in the room, who slowly turn their attention to the duo, that they "know that something has changed," and that they "never felt this way." They feel something, and they explain that "right here, tonight, it's the start of something new," and they tell each other that "it feels so right to be here with you," and that "now, looking in" each other's eyes, they "feel in" their "heart, the start of something new." Troy gets into the song and takes off his coat, asking, "Now, who would've ever thought that we'd both be here tonight?" Gabriella gets into the song, as well, and tells Troy that "the world looks so much brighter with you by my side!" Singing the chorus again, the two doesn't realize that everyone in the room is enjoying the song. In the second verse, Troy jokingly lowers his microphone and explains that "I never knew it could happen 'till it happened to me!" Then they both explain they "didn't know it before, but now it's easy to see it's the start of something new." Singing the last chorus once more, they finally realize that it's "The Start of Something New," before finally seeing that the kids in the room, who are now cheering at them, were singing and dancing along and introducing themselves over the loud cheers.
