Starmania is an Austrian casting show. It is shown on the Austrian TV channel "ORF 1".

It's not part of the World Idol group, it's more an own TV-format. In 2006/2007, the 3rd season ran on ORF 1.

Till now (2007), the winners were Michael Tschuggnall, Verena Pötzl and Nadine Beiler. Interesting is, that Christina Stürmer, the second-placed of the first season, became more famous than the both other two winners with top charts positions in Germany, Switzerland and Italy

In 2004, the ORF sold the Starmania-format rights to the Swiss channel SF. There it is shown under the title "MusicStar".

The first season was the most successful Starmania-season. In the final, 6,000,000 called for their own candidate.

Michael Tschuggnall was the winner and Christina Stürmer the second-placed. 2 weeks later they released their debut single and they were very successful, but Christina's Ich lebe was much more successful than Michael's Tears of Happiness. The years after, showed, that Christina was the real winner of Starmania, because in Austria she had 5 Nr.-1-Hits and 3 Nr.-1 albums, in Germany and Switzerland she was also quite successful.

The second season wasn't as successful as the first one was and the niveau was also not as high as in the first season. The winner was Verena Pötzl, who had only one single in the Austrian Top-10.

After 2 1/2 years Starmania returned on the TV screens. Everything was modernised and more professional. The winner was Nadine Beiler, who was the third winner of Starmania, who was a Tyrolian. 1,153 million people watched the final, that's more than in the second season, but less than in the first season.

Nadine Beiler's debut single is called Alles was du willst. Also Mario Lang and the boygroup jetzt anders! have already published a single. Moreover, Eric Papilaya will be Austrian performer at Eurovision Song Contest 2007.
