[edit] Other games inspired by Star Wars
The classic SF role-playing game Traveller was released in the summer of 1977, very close to the release of the original Star Wars movie. As a consequence, some of the original designers have remarked that for them the game and the movie were very similar, despite the fact that Traveller is generally considered to have a more Golden Age SF feel to it.
The indy rpg Paladin, by Anvilwerks, credits Star Wars as a major inspiration.

The FidoNet Star Wars Echo was probably the first place to create a message forum for playing the Star Wars RPG on-line.
