Star's End is a radio show on 88.5 WXPN, the University of Pennsylvania's radio station, in Philadelphia that plays primarily space music and ambient music. Along with Hearts of Space, it is one of the longest-running ambient radio shows in the world.
Star's End was started in 1976 as an hour-long evening program by John Diliberto, who later went on to host the syndicated radio show Echoes. Beginning in the early 1980's Star's End went through a rotation of several different DJ's. The current host is Chuck Van Zyl.
Star's End broadcasts late Saturday nights from 1 AM to 6 AM. The show features uninterrupted hour-long blocks of music which are blended together by the host. While the show primarily features ambient space music, it occasionally delves into the realms of post-rock, avant-garde, New Age and IDM. In the past, Star's End has featured guest DJ's mixing ambient music, and has also broadcasted live in-studio performances by Robert Rich, Saul Stokes, Jonn Serrie, 302 Acid, Steve Roach and others.
