Stan Wentzel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stanley Aaron Wentzel (January 13, 1917 - November 28, 1991) was a Major League Baseball center fielder who played for the Boston Braves just at the end of the 1945 season. The 28-year-old rookie was a native of Lorane, Pennsylvania.

Wentzel is one of many ballplayers who only appeared in the major leagues during World War II. He started four games for Boston in the last week of the season, all against the New York Giants, and played well. He got only 4 hits in 19 at bats (.211), but had 6 runs batted in, quite a high number for so little playing time. He also scored 3 runs. In the field Wentzel recorded 8 putouts with no errors.

He died at the age of 74 in St. Lawrence, Pennsylvania.
