From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stalking Wolf, or "Grandfather", was a Lipan Apache elder, medicine man and traditional Apache scout who trained world renowned tracker and survival expert Tom Brown, Jr. His real name, according to an interview with Tom Brown, was Nuacano.
Grandfather Stalking Wolf mentored Tom for 10 years, from 1958-1968. The intense method by which Grandfather Stalking Wolf mentored Tom is known as "Coyote Teaching".
Grandfather Stalking Wolf was born in the American Southwest sometime in the mid-1800's. His parents and grandparents were slaughtered by Mexican soldiers when Stalking Wolf was merely an infant. From that time, and for the next 20 or so years, Stalking Wolf was cared for by his Great-Grandfather: Coyote Thunder.
