Stakhanov, Ukraine

Stakhanov (Ukrainian and Russian: Стаханoв) is a city in the Luhansk Oblast (province) of south-eastern Ukraine. The city is designated as its own separate raion (district) within the oblast.

The current estimated population is around 90,152 (as of 2001).

The city is named after the famous Soviet miner Aleksei Grigorievich Stakhanov, as it was his hometown. Before the name change in 1978 the city was known as Kadiyivka (Ukrainian: Кадіївка) [1].

City's economy depends on ferroalloys plant and coal mines.
