Stafford (HM Prison)

HM Prison Stafford is a current operational prison based in the town of Stafford in the United Kingdom. The prison was built in 1794, and has been in almost continuous use, save a period between 1916 and 1940.

The prison has an operational capacity of 680 prisoners, of which approximately 630 are currently (as of 2005) used.

HMP Stafford is a Category C Prison (using the UK classification system), although it is more secure than other Category C Prisons as it has a large perimeter wall and fence.
